Here are a few housekeeping items the Troop needs your attention on:
The recent transition in Troop leadership - particularly the treasurer's position - includes the cancelling of our existing PayPal account. We will be opening up a new PayPal account and Zelle accounts in the near future. Standby for those accounts. We all thank Chris Haines for his efforts over the years as the treasurer and now welcome Franklin Bellarim and Alex Les for stepping up to fill this important position.
Next week, Thursday, October 6, there is no regular scout meeting. It is instead a leader's meeting. HOWEVER, just prior to the leaders getting together we will be hosting a parents meeting. I strongly urge all parents to attend with or without their scouts. As many of us have noted, and as Doc continually reminds us, while the road to Eagle rests on the energy, passion, and interests of the individual Scout, without parent involvement the journey is that much more arduous and it is rare that a Scout will make it alone. We will demystify this journey, and go over the process for advancement, and introduce you to our Advancement Coordinator.
On October 14 - 16, there are 6 scouts and 6 parents headed to the Camporee at Six Flags, Great Adventure. If you still have an interest in attending and you are not signed up, please head over to the Event Signup section of our website and register. We will work out payment thereafter.
We are still scheduling a final camping event in November at Camp NoBeBoSco. Once we have the details we will share among the troop.
While Troop 138 was fortunate over the years to not have to rely on fundraising efforts to fund many troop activities and events, that is no longer the case. Thanks to Kristen Rodieck and Pat Mosca we are pursuing a fish fry event that many troops in the area have used to raise money. While we are locking that down in the next week or so, we will also be pursuing other fundraising events and will need your thoughts, imagination, and volunteerism to accomplish. Mr. Hill has some ideas about a pasta night that we can host for friends of Troop 138.
Regarding dues, Alex Les and Franklin Bellarim will be connecting with Council to determine what the dues will be for 2023. We hope to have that information out to you shortly.
Mr. Hill and his team, that includes many scouts and venture crew members from our unit and others in the area, are once again hosting Nightmare on River Road. Every Friday and Saturday evening throughout the month of October that event is taking place between 6 pm - 10 pm. Monies raised by the event go to scouts. The address is 583 River Road, New Milford. Go get yourself a scare and help raise money for a great cause. You will not be disappointed!
Finally, while your scout needs your attention on the road to eagle, so does your troop and troop leadership. We are always looking for volunteers to drive outings. We are always looking for creative ideas to raise our scouts knowledge, skills, and abilities. And we are always looking for your feedback as to how your scout is responding to and growing with Troop 138.
Looking forward to seeing you this coming Thursday, at 7 pm, at the Paramus Life Safety Complex. The parents portion of the meeting will be under an hour.
