If you want to change the world, start with making your bed!

Troop 138 learned a powerful life lesson last night: they all mastered how to make a bed. Against the back drop of the inspiring speech from Navy Admiral William H. McRaven, the scouts took up the "difficult" task of tucking in sheets, stuffing pillow cases, and folding military corners.

Admiral McRaven in his 2014 University of Texas Commencement Day speech highlighted the importance of starting the day by making your bed. "If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter. If you can't do the little things right, you will never be able to do the big things right. And if by chance you have a miserable day you will come home to a bed that is made, that you made. And a made bed gives you the encouragement that tomorrow will be better."

Energized by the former Navy SEAL's address, Troop 138 rose to the occasion. They jumped in and learned the individual skills required to make their own beds (remember that mom!), but just as important they learned another invaluable life lesson: to work as a team to accomplish a goal. The Scouts split into two groups and competed against one another to see which group could make their beds faster. It was close, but the victory came down to a few seconds. One group grabbed bragging rights, while the other - in honor of the Navy SEALS - indulged in some push ups.

If you want to change the world, start with making your bed. Thank you, Admiral McRaven.
